Paul Chamberlain is a PhD candidate at the Australian National University, completing a thesis on “Sea Power as Statecraft in the Contemporary Indo-Pacific” that examines how Australia, Japan, and Singapore use sea power to shape strategic relationships and the regional order.
He is the Research Fellow for Indo-Pacific Sea Power at the Yokosuka Council on Asia Pacific Studies (YCAPS) and was recently a Visiting Research Fellow at Japan’s National Institute for Defense Studies (NIDS) in Tokyo. He has over 15 years of experience with the Government of Canada, where he served as the first civilian Policy Advisor to the Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy and ran defence relations with Australia and Southeast Asia.
