The 2024 US presidential election: Democracy and its discontents
Democracy Under Pressure: Public Opinion, Populism and the US Election
With a pivotal US presidential election on the horizon, the state of American democracy has never been more closely scrutinised — or more consequential for the rest of the world.
In this special Lowy Institute conversation, the head of the world's most respected public opinion research institution joined two of the Institute's leading experts to examine the forces reshaping US and global politics. The discussion ranged across the rise of populism, the health of democratic institutions, and how public attitudes are driving — and being driven by — one of the most polarising political moments in modern American history.
Transnational Challenges Program Director Lydia Khalil spoke with Pew Research Center President Dr Michael Dimock, with the conversation moderated by Public Opinion and Foreign Policy Program Director Ryan Neelam.
