Canberra Launch: 2024 Lowy Institute Poll - Australian attitudes to the world
Launch: 2024 Lowy Institute Poll — How Australians See the World
How do Australians view the United States as it approaches one of its most consequential elections in modern history? Have two years of diplomatic re-engagement shifted Australian perceptions of China? And where do Australians stand on climate change, renewable energy, and the nuclear debate?
Now in its 20th edition, the Lowy Institute Poll is the longest-running and broadest survey of Australian public opinion on the world — and its findings have shaped public debate on foreign policy for two decades.
At this launch event, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon Tim Watts MP delivered opening remarks before an expert panel unpacked the results of the 2024 edition and explored what they reveal about how Australians understand their place in a rapidly changing world. The discussion was moderated by International Security Program Director Sam Roggeveen.
