In conversation with Shashank Joshi - Defence Editor, The Economist
Global security in focus: a conversation with The Economist's defence editor Shashank Joshi
From the battlefields of Ukraine to the contested waters of the South China Sea, the global security landscape has rarely been more complex or more consequential.
In this wide-ranging Lowy Institute conversation, The Economist's defence editor Shashank Joshi joins International Security Program Director Sam Roggeveen to survey the state of global security. The discussion covers the war in Ukraine, the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, China's growing nuclear ambitions, mounting tensions between China and the Philippines in the South China Sea, and the far-reaching implications of the US presidential election for international security — with questions from the audience throughout.
Informed, incisive and genuinely global in scope, this is essential viewing for anyone seeking to make sense of a world in disorder.
Shashank Joshi's visit was supported by the Australian Department of Defence through the Strategic Policy Grants Program.
