In conversation with the president of the World Bank Group Ajay Banga
Ending poverty, boosting shared prosperity, and securing a liveable planet — these are the defining challenges of our time. But who pays for it, and how?
In this special Lowy Institute conversation, World Bank Group President Ajay Banga joined Executive Director Dr Michael Fullilove AM to discuss the most pressing global economic challenges of our era — and what they mean for Australia and the Asia-Pacific. The discussion explored how the World Bank, governments, the private sector, and civil society can work together to mobilise the investment needed to deliver on these ambitions at scale, and included questions from the audience.
Frank, far-reaching, and grounded in decades of experience at the intersection of finance, development, and global leadership, this is essential viewing for anyone engaged with the future of the global economy and Australia's place within it.
Ajay Banga began his five-year term as President of the World Bank Group in June 2023. He previously served as Vice Chairman at General Atlantic and as President and CEO of Mastercard. He was Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce from 2020 to 2022, an adviser to General Atlantic's climate-focused fund BeyondNetZero from its inception in 2021, and Co-Chair of the Partnership for Central America — a private sector coalition advancing economic opportunity across El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
